Sunday 1st November
Thursday and Friday this week proved quite busy. Ann was
continuing to provide computer tuition for the staff in pharmacy while I
continued to be involved with the medical ward patients mainly. On Friday we
went to the Kagando farm to see a calf that was born earlier in the week. She
seems very lively and healthy!
The new calf
Yesterday morning we made our way to Fort Portal for a
couple of nights away. Johnny Rowland who is an agriculturalist kindly gave us
a lift which was a huge help and gave us time to have a good chat. He will be
sharing the house we are now living in until we leave Kagando in just over 3 weeks’
time. We certainly learnt a lot during the couple of hours of the journey about
rearing good quality cattle in an area like Kagando.
We have had an enjoyable stay here. Yesterday we met up with
a young doctor called Andrew who qualified in medicine recently and is going
his first job here in Fort Portal. It is very tough for him with extremely long
hours and also because he hasn’t yet been paid despite working for 3 months!
A beautiful weaver in the garden where we are staying
Today we went on an expedition to some small caves and
crater lakes a few miles out of Fort Portal. It was good to be doing something
entirely different and we were able to see some beautiful places around the
lakes we visited. The stay here has also allowed us to stock up with a number
of craft items which we will be bringing back with us in December.

Ann is being picked up from here tomorrow morning at 8.30
and being taken to Mityana for around 10 days and the same driver will collect
me on the return journey to take me back to Kagando so I shall have a few hours
tomorrow to do some computer jobs including trying to get together a drug list
that we can use as a drug formulary at Kagando.
Is the really the RIP Café? (actually its R&P!!)
